I thought that during the final lesson, we’d get a review and critique as well as the return of all our drawings but apparently not. Instead we were to hand up a file of the drawings, sorted by date drawn, then say bye to them until the lecturer is done marking or whatever else he intends to do.

So yeah, no drawings for a while. I will, however, be taking photos of a new phase of sculpting class. I chose to model an armoured fox. Most people drew humanoid characters. We are just doing the armature for now. I’ll bring a cam and take pictures for the next lesson.

In other news, this week ends my first semester. Next week starts the second, no break in between. Sad sad life. In the first semester, I’ve already stayed overnight in school 4 times. I hope I don’t have to get used to seeing a deserted Dohby Ghaut where I can cross the main street as and when I like.

Also, politics are increasing. I can’t imagine what will happen in the next semester. It’s only been 3 months and it’s getting bad already.

Sickening… There was a corruption of my files or account or something, I can’t remember the exact email. Snapdrive reset everything for me. As per their TOS, I’m supposed to keep a backup of the images which… I did not…

Well I did for most but now I gotta rename them again exactly. I’m so lazy! And there’s no freaking time!

Those that I don’t have anymore… I guess I’ll delete the posts :S I don’t like the idea of that. Maybe I should just leave the links and save those I can. Even if it uglifies the blog. I don’t think I have the time to continually maintain old posts like that in the future anyway. I can’t possibly redo everything for everytime something crops up be it images or something else.

Snapdrive aside, I realise I haven’t been posting my stuff up because I am just -that- busy. Good news is that Kingston’s lessons are coming to an end so I’ll be receiving all my past works back. Kingston has a total of 24 drawings of which, about 5 or 6 are tests that are to be completed in class which I never fail to screw up simply because I draw like a sloth and can never finish.

Also, since next Monday is the last lesson, after I get my stuff back, I’ll get the office to scan in the images for me so I can post them all.

Which means I’ll repost all the old ones again haha… So far I skipped some ugly ones I didn’t like and I’d prefer them to be in chronological order in this blog. The quality should be better if they really could scan an A3 for me. No stupid shadows of my arm or camera. No crappy reflection. Yay!

I’ve been soooo busy with school. It’s completely different from SIM. The students, the environment, the lecturers, the cirriculum, everything. A grand total of 15 students form the class for each intake for concentrated training (so they claim). The class is very compact. There is sufficient space for you to work and yet small enough to somewhat "force" you to rub shoulders with everyone else in the classroom.

Here, the students are constantly watching and learning from each other. A friend beside you can be showing you his drawing and from out of nowhere, 5 faces pop up behind looking along with you. Everytime a student questions a nearby teacher at his/her seat and is too soft, a few more will move nearer to hear even if they were at the opposite end of the classroom. Of course nobody looks at mine, well they did but not much. I am without a doubt the worst "artist" in the class.

I don’t know much about my classmates mainly because while they are swapping their works around, I don’t have any to share in return. So I sit at my place and practise drawing, hoping no one will ask for mine. It is mightly embarassing when I look at the paper in front of me. It more than pale in comparison. Its also why I’m apprehensive about practising my drawing in class.

I found that there are many experienced artists in my class. By my standards, experienced means you have been drawing for over 5 years. I don’t know much about the other people in class but from what I overheard, the Indian on my right has been drawing for about 10 years. I occasionally peek at his work and he’s pretty good. He seems to have an affinity with dragons. He is also versatile in drawing different forms or styles and appears extremely comfortable with shading techniques.

The one on my left is a very quiet Phillipino. He studied at art schools before, named at least two, and is a comic artist. He likes drawing cutesy stuff - characters with big eyes or cute creatures. Of all the guys, I spoke to him the most and is the most approachable to ask for help. He did gave some tips although I have some problems applying them. Its not that I don’t understand them, the result just always didn’t turn out well. I’m not sure how many years has he been drawing but since he named two schools, I’d say quite a number as well.

There are people from all walks of life in my class. There is an engineer, someone from Product Design, a software engineer, architect (or maybe draftsman?) and a creative designer.

Mostly, I speak with a Thai girl and sometimes the other two girls in class. I also seek help from the comic artist to my left from time to time. I think between us girls, we ALL prefer being around the Thai girl, lol. She’s really nice and is a pleasant conversationist.

Probably the next post will be loooong time after. School’s a bitch and so I shall post my progress in school instead. At least that’s what I intended.I can’t keep my drawings apparently. Didn’t know that. I thought they’d hand it back but I did take a few lousy shots at my first drawing assignment. These were what I drew on my very first day at school.

They were all rough outlines except for the spoon. As for the teacher’s commentary, he only covered the scooping part of the spoon and said he liked the detail of shades and highlight on the handle. Oh, and I didn’t submit the handphone, that was a class exercise. All were done using "Axis" method except the can opener. I used the "Grid" method for that. Grid is by far the most cheating method lol.
