The Ugly Truth

It’s not that I mind watching romance comedy genre but I just don’t often head down specially to watch them. Most of the time I spend my money on heavy effects film. Since my sister said it was nice and the trailers looked interesting, I decided to watch this and it’s a good thing I did. It’s one of the few romance comedy that I really really enjoyed.

The plot is typical and very predictable. Even if I were to type the story out, I don’t think it’d be that big a spoiler Most people should already have guessed the storyline just by watching the trailers alone. What made this movie really stand out however wasn’t the story, partly it’s the romance but mostly it was the comedy. Sexist jokes are not new but the way it’s presented here made it enjoyable. The beginning is a little slow but once Gerard Butler appeared, the pace picked up and my friends and I couldn’t stop laughing through the show.

I’d especially recommend this film to friends that have the tendency to control their partners. Hello, you know who you are. Stop smiling. Just go watch it. Let’s see if you can handle the truth.

Avatar - A breakthrough in 3D film

There’s been quite some hype about an upcoming movie (release date for Singapore should be 17 December) called Avatar. Unfortunately it isn’t the plot or the usual elements that people are raving about. It is the technology being employed behind the film. Supposedly, it’s more 3D than the current 3D films we’ve been seeing. The director himself, James Cameron, help to create a “fusion digital 3D camera system” which he patented some time ago and refined it for this film. From all the articles about it I’ve been reading, this film is supposed to be a breakthrough in 3D film technology, something that will bring the experience to a new level and spearhead film industry’s 3D direction even further being the first of it’s kind to be released.

Breakthrough or not, I’ll be watching this film more for the story than for the technology. Here’s a trailer of it.

The matte paintings look so good *envies* There’s also a game for it by Ubisoft by the same name as the movie. Too bad the game isn’t my type of genre or I may try playing it. Still, the environment and concept designs are impressive. It does look like an alien planet so rich in life and vibrancy. In fact, the game trailers look more interesting to me than the movie’s.

Can’t wait for 17 December to come.

Will Turner - Final Version

As per the title, this is the final result although yes it still has the moustache problem. I saw Joann’s comment after this is done and submitted.

Had I had the time, I would have…

1. Put in rain
2. Put sea foam on the backwash of the waves
3. Fix moustache
4. Add lightning

Oh well, the next time I paint in Photoshop, it should be faster. Now I’m just trying out tutorials and experimenting. Deviantart’s tutorials are damn good…

2 Fast 2 Furious Sketch

This is the second time the teacher chose works out and put it up on the wall with blu-tac. I subsequently christened it “Wall of Fame”. The first round was during the second human portrait. I obviously didn’t make it through. I think it’s really ugly.

This week, when I handed up the work, the lecturer noticed it and commented that it’s visibly better than my other works. I also think it’s my nicest work yet but I’m not very proud of it. Most people draw the car using perspective techniques or grids with either 3x2 or 4x2. I used a lame 17x9 grid. How can I not be accurate with that? It’s so cheating that it shouldn’t count as an achievement.

I managed to make it to the “Wall of Fame” with that drawing. The male lead wasn’t drawn with cheats though.

Fyi, it’s a 2 fast 2 furious wallpaper featuring Brian.

In case the links get broken, there’s still this, this and this.
