Better record down all the instructions here before I forget.
I had the urge to playing ROMs on emulators but this time a newer game - Metal Slug 5. Supposedly, the neoragex emulator that I used to support last time was said to be excellent and the best for older games but from Metal Slug 3 onwards, MAME and Kawarks emulators are better.
Bloody problem is that these are harder to use and I’m reading so many documentations so earnestly, I might as well study them for my course. T_T
Recording for future reference in case I ever get the urge to play again 5 years later.
*NOTE: Applicable to Neogeo ONLY
MAME Emulator Resources
Basically MAME works like this:
Requirements
Compatible ROM file
What do the above mean?
It’s a list of emulators and not just one because the original MAME emulator is command prompt based. Means you do a Run then type cmd then yadda yadda yadda crap. As of this writing, frontend MAME (means with GUIs) that are highly recommended from several sites and forums is MAME32. Unfortunately, as of this writing, the creators hosted it on fileplanet that requires a account with fileplanet to download. Means you need to sign up. Means you need to pay.
Neogeo BIOS file is required because game roms needs a "parent" rom in order to run. Think of the game roms as "extensions" of the main system.
Compatibility is important! NeorageX bios/rom files will not work with MAME and Kawarkz bios/rom files, etc etc. Each rom file type is compatible with its corresponding emulator only.
*NOTE: Applicable to MAME ONLY
The above is for Neogeo games. For MAME games, the BIOS file would be http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=31622 Just use the above instructions but substitute the Neogeo BIOS file with this MAME BIOS file.
#Tip: Both Neogeo and MAME BIOS file can coexist together in the /roms folder. So can their games.
